As a Graphic Designer you will need to post your portfolio online either on your own website or on a website that hosts designers’ portfolios. I actually recommend both. Of course, it is preferable to have your own site, both for credibility and so you can control the look, flow and functionality. This will give you a boost as far as Google rankings.
Posting your portfolio on a site that is set up for hosting designers’ work has other benefits. For one, you don’t have to have any knowledge of web design or coding. Google also likes directory type listings, so that you will tend to get really good results for your name on a Google search. And most are free. You can also sign up, populate and send a link to your work in a pinch for an unexpected interview or job posting.
I have my portfolio listed on a few just to put myself out there. Because I have my own website, I tend to forget to update the others. They are a good place to find some inspiration and some have social integration features, and I have built some friendships through them. In the end, it is just another place for potential clients to find you and see your work.
Here are a few:

I have my portfolio posted here. Has a good range of features. Free. Encourages social interaction between designers.
